Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a benign but often painful disease in which endometrium-like tissue is found outside the uterus. In adenomyosis uteri, endometrial tissue is found in the deep muscle layer of the uterus. This can be focally limited, but can also affect the uterus more extensively. Accurate imaging is crucial to support the diagnosis, to determine the extent and localization and to plan the best possible treatment.
Diagnostics
At the Radiology Department of the University Hospital of Cologne, we offer dedicated MRI diagnostics for endometriosis with high-resolution MRI sequences. This allows us to visualize deep infiltrating foci in the uterus as well as in the entire pelvis with the ovaries, in the Douglas space, on the pelvic wall and on the intestines, diaphragm or urinary tract. As a rule, the MRI is performed without contrast medium and takes around 30 minutes.
The examinations and findings are carried out by experienced radiologists with proven expertise in endometriosis diagnostics.
Minimally invasive therapy
In selected patients, especially those with abdominal wall endometriosis, cryoablation (targeted freezing of the focus) can be performed. This minimally invasive, tissue-sparing procedure is carried out under CT image guidance and allows a rapid recovery.
Interventional therapy is offered in close cooperation with the Department of Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. Only through the interdisciplinary cooperation of both departments can individually tailored and safe treatment be guaranteed.
MRI scheduling and discussion of findings
You can make an appointment via the secretary's office by e-mail. We can then offer to discuss the MRI findings with you by telephone.
