Frequently asked questions
Stenoses are narrowings or constrictions in hollow organs. This refers specifically to constrictions/stenoses of the carotid arteries or vessels in the head. These can be treated easily and at low risk using interventional procedures. This helps to prevent strokes.
A prerequisite for the treatment of a stenosis is that the indication for treatment is given, as only a small proportion of stenoses need to be treated. The indication for the insertion of a stent or a simple widening of the stenosis is determined in close consultation with the Department of Neurology and the Department of Neurosurgery.
