Abdominal and oncological diagnostics
Cross-sectional imaging using computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and sonography (ultrasound) as well as conventional X-ray diagnostics include a variety of examination techniques for diagnosing diseases of the abdominal and pelvic organs. These radiological procedures are of great importance in the clarification of abdominal complaints and are also used in the local staging of abdominal tumors, to determine the local extent of tumors and to diagnose the spread of tumors.
Under the project name "radCIO Cologne" - Radiological Centre for Integrated Oncology at Cologne University Hospital, a modern infrastructure for the specialized diagnosis of oncological imaging and interventions is currently being developed in Cologne. In the radCIO, optimizations in radiological imaging and reporting are increasingly being integrated into clinical use for the benefit of individual patients. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) with its positive opportunities is currently the focus here - for example, we are already using the latest AI systems integrated into modern oncology software in prostate MRI.
In the context of tumour diseases, this enables the comprehensive characterization of tumours and their behaviour under oncological therapy. A key element here is interdisciplinary collaboration with experts from the relevant clinics, which takes place in interdisciplinary specialist conferences, so-called tumor boards.
In addition, we also offer a variety of minimally invasive treatment options (see also Interventional Radiology).
In clinical care, we offer the entire spectrum of abdominal and oncological diagnostics, including special MRI examinations such as multiparametric prostate imaging at 3T, MRCP, fat fraction quantification and MR-Sellink.
Renal imaging and ADPKD
Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common hereditary kidney disease and the fourth most common cause of kidney failure worldwide. ADPKD leads to the development of numerous renal cysts, kidney enlargement and consecutive chronic kidney disease, and the severity of the disease varies greatly. UHC has one of the largest, well-characterized cohorts of patients with ADPKD in the world, the AD(H)PKD cohort. Most patients are thoroughly evaluated with annual MR examinations, clinical examinations and extensive hematologic and genetic testing.
